Summary

Lock In is a grade-tracking product for users age 13 and older. Your grade data stays on your device — we don't store classes, assignments, or scores on our servers. We collect the minimum needed to run accounts, deliver AI screenshot credits, support the product, and prevent abuse. We do not sell student personal information, and we do not use educational content for targeted advertising.

Not affiliated with Skyward or your school

Lock In is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Skyward, Inc., any school, or any school district. Names such as "Skyward" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe portal compatibility.

Age eligibility

Lock In is not available to children under 13. Before signup, we ask for birth month and year only to confirm eligibility. If the response shows the visitor is under 13, we block signup and do not collect an email address or create an account.

Information we collect

What we don't store: we do not store the classes, assignments, grades, due dates, categories, notes, tracking status, or what-if scores you create. Those live in your browser's local storage on your device.

How we use information

We use information to provide the product, authenticate users, deliver AI screenshot import credits, respond to support requests, maintain security, prevent abuse, comply with law, and improve core product functionality.

Usage and error diagnostics

The website and browser extension send anonymous usage and error diagnostics so we can keep the product working and improve it. These events describe what happened, not who you are: the action taken (e.g. "synced grades," "ran what-if"), success/failure and error codes, timing and counts, app version and theme, a random session identifier, and the coarse grade-portal host/district (e.g. which Skyward host) so we know which portals to support. Diagnostics never include your grades, assignments, names, or the contents of your school data. Error reports include a truncated error name and message only.

Storage and sharing

Grade data stays in your browser's local storage on your device. Account email, billing state (AI credits, purchase metadata), and profile details are stored on our backend so we can authenticate you and deliver your purchases. We share personal information only with service providers that help us host, send email, process payments, or run AI screenshot import — subject to appropriate restrictions, or when required by law.

AI screenshot import

When you use AI screenshot import, the images and extracted text are processed by our worker and by an AI service provider (OpenAI) to turn the screenshot into structured grade data. The extracted data is returned to your browser and stored locally. We do not retain the original screenshot or the extracted grade data on our servers. Do not upload screenshots that contain information you do not want processed for this purpose.

Browser extension

The Lock In browser extension is an optional companion to the website. When you open your school grade portal (Skyward family/student access on *.wa-k12.net), the extension reads the grade, assignment, and category-weight information already shown on that page so you don't have to type or paste it. This happens entirely in your browser:

The extension's single purpose is to help students track and improve their grades by reading their own grade portal and projecting grade outcomes locally. You can remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions page; uninstalling clears its local data.

No sale, share, or targeted ads

We do not sell student personal information. We do not share student personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use educational content such as grades, assignments, screenshots, or notes for targeted advertising.

Retention and deletion

Account and billing state are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above (account operation, security, legal compliance, support). Grade data lives in your browser — you can clear it any time by clearing site data for lockin.school or signing out (sign-out wipes local Lock In data). You may contact us at support@lockin.school to request account deletion.

Parents, guardians, and minors

Parents or guardians with questions about a minor’s use of Lock In can contact us. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without authorization required by law, we will close the account and delete the information where feasible.

State privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, know, correct, delete, or request information about how personal information is used. To make a request, contact us at the email below. We will respond according to applicable law.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date. If changes materially affect logged-in users, we may require a new acknowledgement in the product.
